DVM Technology goes international with Genico™
Broadband Telephony
Overseas
expansion in 11 countries by 2007

Kuala
Lumpur, December 29, 2005 –
DVM Technology Bhd takes a step closer in realising
its international expansion plans with the release
of Genico™ Broadband
Telephony today.
Genico™ Broadband
Telephony is the industry’s first complete
class of carrier-grade broadband telephony solution
for international telecommunication carriers,
mobile operators, network service providers
and Internet Service Providers.
Approximately RM7 million
has been invested in researching and developing
Genico™ Broadband Telephony
since 2002 to surpass stringent requirements
from the international telecommunication industry,
said DVM Technology Bhd executive director Chen
Chee Peng. “This launch is a major milestone
for us. Genico™ Broadband
Telephony is the first of its kind complete
with back-end systems, broadband telephony service
components and end-user front-end client interfaces
for devices.”
“Being complete is a
very important distinction in the telco industry
as other solutions are focused only on the back-end
or end-user front end. More importantly, it
surpasses high standards and will be exported
to the international telecommunication industry,
in line with our five-year international expansion
plans announced last year,” he said, adding
this contributes to efforts in branding Malaysia
as a technology exporter.
DVM Technology aims to export
Genico™ Broadband Telephony
to telcos in 11 countries, excluding Malaysia
(in alphabetical order) by 2007. These countries
are Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Norway,
Pakistan, Philippines, Saudia Arabia, Singapore,
Thailand and Vietnam. In these countries, telco’s
feedbacks have indicated that conventional voice
calls profitability have become razor thin.
These telcos seek innovations
to increase either usage frequency or call duration.
“With Genico™ Broadband
Telephony, telcos can offer their corporate
and residential subscribers compelling reasons
to use broadband telephony services instead
of focusing on offering low margin-low call
rates packages,” said Chen.
Being able to offer compelling
reasons is important. Telcos have not yet seen
mass subscriber acceptance although broadband
communication technology like Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) to make voice calls is not new.
A Forrester Research report released this August;
"VoIP Liberates Voice from the Phone"
found 70 per cent of respondents to its survey
indicated having no interest in switching to
a VoIP service because telcos haven't made a
compelling case for their services. The report
recommended telcos focus on providing subscribers
with compelling reasons and not price.
“This report provides
an important lesson. The majority of subscribers
do not find cheap broadband voice calls persuasive.
In order to overcome this mindset, telcos can
combine and package different services in Genico™
Broadband Telephony to form
compelling reasons to attract subscribers,”
he said, explaining these services include two-party
video calls, connectivity to Public Switched
Telephone Networks, Global System for Mobile
communications, Internet Protocol and 3G networks,
multi-party conferencing sessions, call transfers,
collaboration tools and more.
Note:
DVM Technology and NGC Systems will showcase
Genico™ Broadband Telephony
