forum for Asia Pacific telcos

January
19, 2006, Shanghai, China – Despite
a cold temperature of 10 degrees Celcius outside
the Le Meridien She Shan Shanghai, DVM Technology
Bhd is a hot property at the HP OpenCall Insight
Days 2006, an annual forum for the telecommunication
industry's leading players in Asia Pacific.
The excitement surrounds DVM
Technology’s latest innovation, Genico™
3G Pocketsports. Hewlett Packard Asia Pacific
Ltd HP OpenCall Business Unit (Asia-Pacific
& Japan) operations director Laurent Valluy
confirmed Genico™ 3G Pocketsports is the
first 3G streaming sports video application
in Asia, capable of fully utilizing HP OpenCall
Media Platform (OCMP) Video, a dominant driver
in enabling telcos to provide enhanced video
and rich media capabilities. “We believe
this strong partnership will drive both companies’
business to new heights,” said Valluy.
Genico™ 3G Pocketsports
is aimed at capturing an early lead in the lucrative
mobile video market in Asia Pacific. The market
space for mobile video showing sports clips,
comedy clips, music clips, people-in-the-news
clips, is fast growing according to several
industry observers.
For example, In-Stat/MDR forecasted
the global mobile video market at US$5.4 billion
or 14.9 per cent of total wireless-data revenue
by 2009. The user growth is expected to exceed
22.3 million in 2009 from 273,000 in 2004. In
a similar vein, research analysts at Yankee
Group expect the global mobile video market
revenue at US$2 billion by 2008.
According to DVM Technology
executive director Chen Chee Peng, much of the
buzz surrounding Genico™ 3G Pocketsports
is focused on its first-in-the-market capabilities
like intelligent authoring, contextual advertisement
insertion, online video clip library and high
degree of subscriber personalization.
Genico™ 3G Pocketsports
is being previewed at HP OpenCall Insight Days
2006 as the two-day event is attended by decision
makers from more than 70 telcos from Asia Pacific.
It also showcases cutting-edge products, services
and solutions from premier HP OpenCall partners
around the world. Full details about Genico™
3G Pocketsports will be made known at its expected
launch in Kuala Lumpur soon.
“Our objective in previewing
Genico™ 3G Pocketsports is to demonstrate
a new way for telcos to automate critical tasks
in authoring, managing and broadcasting video
clips to 3G devices,” said Chen, adding
DVM Technology is represented by its research
and development arm, NGC Systems Sdn Bhd, a
HP OpenCall Asia Pacific partner, at the event.
“We’re also the
sole Malaysian technology company at the event,”
Chen said, alongside giants like BEA Systems
Inc., Intrado Inc. and Intervoice Inc. “It’s
an honour to present our solution together with
HP. This prestigious event is a strategic platform
to brand Genico™ and engage with key representatives
of telecommunication providers and mobile carriers
from Asia Pacific,” said Chen, highlighting
that Genico™ Broadband Telephony is also
being showcased as an advanced suite of broadband
communication solution for telcos.
DVM Technology’s Genico™
3G Pocketsports and Genico™ Broadband
Telephony are expected to benefit from the exposure.
Regional telcos at the event are expected to
seek new ways in harnessing packet-based technology
like Genico™ Broadband Telephony, as broadband
access improves. Telcos are also seeking innovative
technology like Genico™ 3G Pocketsports,
which offers compelling services to encourage
the mass adoption of 3G technology from subscribers.
